Matt Toner Hired as the new Men's & Women's Volleyball Coach
For the first time since the 2021-2022 school year volleyball will return to FTC in the fall of 2025 for both the men and the women.
Matt Toner formerly coached the Adelphi University volleyball team for 8 seasons in all aspects of their program, including practice management and scouting.
When asked how he felt about reviving the two programs he stated, "I’m very excited for the opportunity to join the FTC family and begin my journey as the head volleyball coach. I look forward to working with everyone to build a strong volleyball program and keep up with the standards that FTC athletics has set."
Toner, a USA Volleyball certified coach, brings over 16 years of sideline experience to Five Towns College. The bulk of his knowledge was gained with the Long Island Big Apple Volleyball Club (LIBA), an organization that Toner has coached with since 2004, working with various high school aged athletes.
He currently serves as the co-director of the Dawn Patrol Beach Volleyball Club in Long Beach. Toner has enjoyed a successful local beach career, including tournament victories over nationally-ranked competition. He has competed in AVP tournaments and has participated in USAV nationals numerous times including a 12th place finish out of 70 teams in 2013.
His wealth of experience was one of the reasons the school was excited to bring him on. Interim AD Jason Fiscina said, "Matt Toner comes to Five Towns with a strong resume having coached collegiately at Adelphi along with club coaching experience. The fact that he has a teaching background as well makes him the ideal candidate to revive the volleyball program at Five Towns. I am excited for him to build both the men's and women's volleyball program."
Coach Toner is a graduate of Queens College for both his bachelor's and master's degrees and he currently teaches physical education at the middle school level.
Welcome to the family coach!
