Five Towns College Men’s Soccer Team Joins Forces with Metro Amputee Soccer Team for Special Joint Practice
August 31, 2025 – A unique collaboration between Five Towns College Men's Soccer Team and the Metro Amputee Soccer Team took place this weekend, marking a memorable day for both teams as they shared the field in a joint practice session that blended athleticism, sportsmanship, and inclusivity.
The event, held at Sportstime Kings Park, was an inspiring demonstration of unity and resilience. It saw the players from the traditional soccer team practicing alongside members of the Metro Amputee Soccer Team, an organization that provides competitive opportunities for athletes with amputations.
The purpose of the event was not only to foster athletic skill but also to build understanding and camaraderie between able-bodied athletes and those with disabilities. The Five Towns College Men's Soccer Team, coached by Jason Fiscina, was eager to embrace the opportunity to learn from the Metro Amputee Soccer Team.
"It's a truly humbling experience for our guys," said Coach Fiscina of the Five Towns College Men's Soccer Team. "It's one thing to hear about the challenges faced by adaptive athletes, but it's another thing entirely to share the field with them and see firsthand how they overcome obstacles. This experience will stay with them for a long time."
Amputee soccer, while following many of the same rules as traditional soccer, requires athletes to play with one or more amputated limbs. These players utilize specialized prosthetics or play with modified techniques, which gives the sport a distinct dynamic. The Metro Amputee Soccer Team, part of the Amputee Soccer Association, has been instrumental in helping raise awareness for adaptive sports and offering amputee athletes the chance to compete at the highest level.
During the practice, members of both teams exchanged tips on technique, teamwork, and fitness while engaging in friendly drills. The Five Towns College athletes, who were used to playing on full-size fields with the conventional rules of soccer, quickly found that amputee soccer required a different kind of athleticism and ingenuity.
The joint practice also highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sports. Members of both teams found common ground through their love of soccer and mutual respect for each other's abilities. While the Metro Amputee Soccer Team has had athletes participate in regional and national competitions, the collaboration offered a chance for visibility and growth in the adaptive sports community.
